The Ultimate Smoothie For Weight Loss - Recipe by Joni Siegel

My sister and her husband visited me this past weekend. After a long walk on the beach she asked me to make her one of my favorite rituals, a morning green smoothie. Last July, the gorgeous Malibu summer inspired me to shed some extra pounds and transition to a plant based diet. As a purveyor of natural products, I interact with various business owners in our industry. I have researched and taken many of these incredible ingredients for the past decade.

On my way to work one morning, I stopped in at one of my favorite stores for breakfast, Erewhon in Calabasas and ordered a “Green Goddess” smoothie. One sip and I was hooked! So I tailored my own smoothie around this recipe. Each morning after hiking with Jackson at sunrise, I whipped up this plant based concoction. My results were amazing. I lost 15 pounds in about 2 months, had significantly increased energy, focus, mental clarity, and could run farther, exercise longer, sleep better, and the key- my work became more focused and efficient. Running a growing company, I need all the energy and clarity I can get. So I was a little concerned about moving to a predominately plant based diet. All I can say is, I wish I would’ve done it earlier. This smoothie gives your body everything it needs to thrive!


So here is the recipe that worked so well for me, along with links of my favorite supplement companies. This makes about 32 ounces so take your time and sip throughout the morning. Most importantly, as my dear friend Dr. Om used to say, “Chew your liquids” to prep your GI tract and begin the digestive process.
In your Vitamix (one scoop = 1 heaping tablespoon):
I sip on this throughout the morning, then have my biggest plant based meal at noon. To lose excess weight, I fast the rest of the day and drink tons of water. Otherwise, I have a light dinner of cooked veggies, or a big salad. That’s it!
